From 1st February 2016 Guildford and Waverley CCG’s guidance on prescriptions for dental prescriptions will change and therefore any prescription for dental conditions should be obtained through a dentist. The Practice will therefore no longer be able to supply prescriptions medicines that a dentist could prescribe themselves.
GP’s will not accept request from patients to issue an NHS prescription for items prescribed on a private prescription by their dentist during dental treatment as a private patient.
The reason behind this decision is based on guidance that focuses on a need for patients to have regular check-ups with a dentist when being treated for a dental condition. GPS are being advised not to assess or treat dental conditions and to refer to a dentist who has specific expertise to carry out this role.
